by caleb chandlerI took this picture while on a hike at the coast. It was a great opportunity to get an image that showcased the ocean, which I love. I then enhanced the color to create a more beautiful scene. Looking at it is like escaping your world for another - even just for a second.

BY ABBY PASIONThis painting represents that past meeting the present. Prior to Spanish colonization, the Philippines had a rich and thriving tattoo culture. Much like the rest of Pacifika, these tattoos told a story that was unique to every individual who had them. But because of colonization and evangelization this sacred art was deemed as “savagery” and a “disgrace to the body.” This art is dying out in the Philippines, with only a few individuals left in the country who practice the traditional, natural process of kalinga tattooing. But many Filipino artists are working to bring this tattoo culture back as a way of reclaiming their lost roots and giving other Filipino/a/xs (like myself) the same opportunity as well.
BY ABBY PASIONColonization strips culture away. That’s what it did with me and my people. It left us with nothing but gaps to fill in with foreign influences and diluted blood. But all you need is one little opening, an opportunity, to resist and reclaim what was always yours.
by caleb chandlerThis piece was a fun chance to work with layers; I love astronomy so adding the stars and planets to myself was something I really wanted to try. I wanted to showcase a profile of myself but also capture the colors and beauty of space in the same image.
